R-Type III & Super R-Type - Collector's Edition

R-Type III: The Third Lightning - Originally released in December 1993, this entry to the series brought about two new Forces as well as a refined weapon system such as the Hyper Wave Cannon. You'll need the firepower to take on massive stages with equally massive bosses. If you need a hand, you can ask a friend to help you in 2 Player Mode.
Super R-Type - Released on September 1991, this game was a hit on the SNES®. It is a partial retelling of R-Type II, borrowing four stages while adding three of its own. It is a brutal game providing no check points and making even the most skilled veterans sweat with its difficulty.

July 1991

Super R-Type is released on the Japanese Super Famicom. It uses most of the stages from R-Type II as a base and builds upon it.

Super R-Type is released in North America on the SNES®. This release received new box art by Irem America.

Super R-Type is released in Europe on the PAL SNES®. This one also got new box art for this release.

December 1993

R-Type III: The Third Lightning is released on the Japanese Super Famicom. It added new Forces and a variety of gameplay changes.

1994

R-Type III: The Third Lightning gets ports for the PAL SNES® within Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg throughout the year in limited quantities. The United States would get their SNES® release in October of the same year.

March 2004

R-Type III: The Third Lightning sees a port on the Game Boy Advance® arrive in March to the United States with France and the U.K. seeing it in October.

2006-2007

The SNES®/SFC® version of R-Type III: The Third Lightning arrives on the Wii Virtual Console on December 2006. The USA and Europe will have it the following month in 2007. They were all delisted in 2012-2013.
