This Mega collection is set to be officially released on a physical cartridge for the first time in North America!

Only the truly dedicated fans and collectors of the widely acclaimed Mega Man series would know about its only SEGA Genesis®/Mega Drive entry.  Released in 1994 for Japan and PAL regions, fans expected the North American release to come soon after, only to see the title moved exclusively to the SEGA Channel™ - a cable/download service that was available in some regions of the United States and Canada.  Those waiting for a physical release without importing would have to wait.  It took nearly 25 years for it to be officially released in North America as part of the collection of games on the SEGA Genesis®/Mega Drive Mini.  But for those looking to bring the Blue Bomber to the Blast Processing console, Retro-Bit finally brings it to you as part of this very special collector's edition!

December 1987

Rock Man debuts on the Japanese Family Computer console, produced by a small team at Capcom.  The game was developed specifically for the home console market and not derived from any existing arcade game.  It was also released in North America as Mega Man at the same time.  Europe would get the game in 1988.  It would be the beginning of one of Capcom's most recognizable franchises.

December 1988

Despite positive reviews, the initial game did not sell well, but Capcom allowed the team to work on a sequel.  In Japan, Rock Man 2 launched on Christmas Eve, with North America getting Mega Man 2 in 1989 and PAL territories getting it in 1991.  The follow-up proved to be a massive success critically and went on to be the entry with the most sales from the classic era.

September 1990

A third entry launched as Rock Man 3 in Japan and brought about several key additions to the gameplay that would end up being mainstays such as sliding.  Mega Man 3 would launch in November of that year, with the PAL version having to wait until 1991.  It has sold over a million copies and bookended a strong trilogy on the Nintendo console.

October 1994

Capcom made a big splash on the SEGA Genesis®/Mega Drive with Street Fighter II: Champion Edition and sought to capitalize on it.  They would task Minakuchi Engineering, which had already handled the Game Boy® ports of Rock Man/Mega Man, with creating a compilation for the 16-bit console.  According to Keiji Inafune, the development was stressful and delayed, and it required some of Capcom's own staff to help the developer meet its deadline.  Rockman Mega World was released on October 21, 1994, for the Japanese Mega Drive.

December 1994

A North American release titled Mega Man: The Wily Wars was put on hold, allegedly due to graphical issues, but it would then appear as a playable title on the SEGA Channel service in the United States and Canada.  However, the service ended by July 1998.  The physical  PAL cartridge version would arrive in April 1995, with Mega Man fans in North America ending up importing it over the years, despite the game running at 50 Hz.

May 2021

Retro-Bit Publishing releases Mega Man: The Wily Wars on the SEGA Genesis® and PAL Mega Drive.  Thanks to Capcom USA and our programmers, some parts were fixed to allow for less slowdown during certain encounters, which affected the original version.  Over 20,000 copies were delivered by January 2022.
  • The licensing has been updated to reflect this release.
  • The game is able to run at 60Hz on NTSC consoles and 50Hz on PAL consoles.
  • Mega Man 1: The source of much slowdown has been remedied, which involved editing the boss gates to work properly as well as hiding the score counter.  These changes are enough to remove a lot of slowdown encountered in the first entry.
