Put up your dukes and grab this cult classic for its first official release outside of Japan!

Retro-Bit® and Irem® have teamed up once again to bring another masterpiece to the West.  Originally released in 1992, Undercover Cops joined other Irem® classics like Kung Fu Master, Blade Master, Ninja Baseball Man, and more at the arcades.  Three years later, the arcade hit was brought to the Super Famicom® in Japan but was never released in North America or Europe.  Now officially translated to English for the first time, you can answer the Mayor's call and experience Zan's techniques, Matt's powerful throws, and Rosa's dazzling abilities in 16-bit glory.  You can even raise the challenge even further to experience the true ending in Hard mode - if you can survive!

July 1992

Undercover Cops was released in arcades in Japan and became a return to form for Irem and beat 'em ups.  Later that year, an updated version was released for Europe and North America, which removed dash attacks, throws, and Super Desperation Moves.  While all versions support 2 players, there were rare 3-player setups with dual monitors that appeared in some arcades.

The following year, Irem would release a revision known as Alpha Renewal Version for Europe and North America.  This version reinstated most of the removed content and gameplay elements from the original Japanese release.

Early 1993

Due to the arcade's success in Japan, a manga by Waita Uziga was published by Shinseisha.  The Undercover Cops manga comic had two volumes and features stories centered on the main characters, particularly Rosa.

December 1993

A Game Boy spinoff titled アンダーカバーコップス 破壊神ガルマァ (Undercover Cops: Garma the Destruction God) is a turn-based slot machine game featuring the cast of the original arcade game while also having cameos and references from other Irem games such as Hammerin' Harry.

March 1994

In the pages of Nintendo Power #58, it was teased that Irem would be porting Undercover Cops to the SNES® in North America, with advertisements showing off a new updated style for the artwork.

March 1995

The Super Famicom port of Undercover Cops was launched by publisher Varie after some delays.  This version is strictly a single-player game while also updating some graphics for the 16-bit screen.  It was expected that a North American or PAL version would follow, having already been shown in Western publications, but that project was canceled soon after.

October 2021

Nearly 30 years after its arcade debut, Undercover Cops would be released for NTSC-U and PAL SNES® consoles.  This version is a complete official translation of the Japanese release, allowing Western gamers to finally experience this unique beat 'em up.  Pre-orders had ended in March.
  • The licensing has been updated to reflect this release.
  • This is the Japanese Super Famicom® version that has been officially translated to English.
  • To switch between NTSC and PAL modes, users can quickly reset the game twice.
